Down through the
centuries different countries have adapted basic methods to suit individual
tastes and unique conditions.Canada
has been no exception to this trend and though few realize it, Canadians have
many traditional foods and many strictly traditional methods of preparing
them.Economic and geographical
conditions are the greatest contributing factors in changing any foods into traditional
dishes.Canada’s traditions begin most
naturally with its first settlers.Perhaps it would be more accurate to say that the Indians were indeed
the first to prepare the natural food products of the country, but the first
recorded methods were those employed by the French. The hunter, the trapper, the woman as well as the nun of Canada’s
colonial period are responsible for many of the food traditions that still
exist today.
